Philosophy of Obsession

What Day Indicator Means to Me

An inner disc slowly rotates, revealing the day through a small window. Even in this era of smartwatch popularity, this somewhat old-fashioned mechanism is still commonly found in watches. I consider the day indicator to be a type of low-tech that touches the heart.

The Roots of My Passion

What always draws me in are things that carry a sense of age.

Photography is one of my hobbies, and I enjoy collecting lenses. Looking back, I realize I’ve always been especially drawn to older ones—vintage lenses made for film cameras. Of course, modern lenses offer superior performance and are far more user-friendly. Yet old lenses invariably possess a unique charm that only they can offer. It’s not just about specifications; it’s about the feeling they evoke. Perhaps this is what people in Japan call emoi, a term used to describe an emotional appeal that goes beyond logic.

The part of a watch that evokes the strongest emotions for me is the day indicator. Much like camera lenses, I find myself irresistibly drawn to this long-established, almost old-fashioned technology. The days of the week are deeply connected to human emotions—just consider expressions like “Blue Monday.” By focusing on this kind of “low-tech that touches the heart,” I believed it would be possible to create a design that genuinely resonates with the wearer.

Bringing Passion to Life

My intention was both primitive and optimistic.

By drawing on time-honored, fundamental techniques, I sought to express the present—and the future—in a positive light. This meticulously crafted timepiece is the result of that vision. With this watch, I hope each day will be experienced with a sense of joy.

With a wish for every day to be a good day, auspicious words are used in the display. In addition to showing today’s day of the week in both Japanese and English, the watch also indicates what day tomorrow will be. Each window and Arabic numeral is accented with sky-blue shading reminiscent of clear skies, creating a three-dimensional, optical illusion-style effect. A sense of playfulness is packed into every detail.

A circular disc known as the “day wheel” is housed beneath the dial. Driven by the internal mechanism, it advances as the day draws to a close, switching the display to the next day.

Available in two colors inspired by the daytime and nighttime skies. When you wear it and raise your arm upward, gazing up at the sky, your mood will naturally lift.
